Excitement!

Hello Everyone!
As you can see from the previous blog there certainly is some excitement going on around here! The land in Kenya is purchased, improvements as far as planting and fencing the perimeter are about to start, the architect is working hard, and people thousands of milees away on two completely diverse continents are working together to make a difference in our world for future generations! Congratulations for being part of history!

The WTW board will be meeting tomorrow, Friday, August 1st to finalize the agenda and plans for the WTW meeting on Wednesday, August 6th. The August 6th meeting place is yet to be determined...but it will either be at the Myers' home in Fort Atkinson or the Klamm home in Whitewater...more details to come.

Allow me to take a second and briefly highlight what is currently going on with our International Village project.
  • The land has just been purchased in Kenya, fencing and planting will begin immediately
  • I have preliminarily met with one person that has experience in Humanitarian Aid in the Dominican Republic and a further meeting will be set up with more of his contacts to evaluate the WTW IV project in the Dominican Republic
  • We have contacted some of our Community Board members in regards to exploring the WTW IV project in Sri Lanka and I will be meeting with an esteemed professor on Tuesday morning for more discussion
  • The WTW board is finalizing a large fundraising effort that will be released on August 6th...get ready as this will be the best and the biggest fundraiser yet! It will most certainly expand the influence of WTW both here and abroad!
  • The WTW website will be adjusted by Computer Know How of Brodhead, WI to accomodate for this new fundraiser and for IV-Hopewell...look for a reservation system to be up before our Summer 09 trip!
  • I have met with Carol and Crystal from Via1 an exciting Marketing and Advertising firm out of Burlington and they along with their team of designers and writers are working on a campaign to help with the total operations of the WTW IV project including fundraising, trip promotion, and more! I cannot tell you how excited I am about this group of people and the possibility of them joining the WTW Team...wait until you see what they can do. After meeting them and perusing their portfolio of work and listening to the passion they have for their work...the sky is the limit with this group of professionals. I am SOOOOOO Excited I cannot even tell you!
  • We have also received our first news article! The Burlington Standard Press and Mark Dudzik are very interested in our project and have been wonderful supporters of WTW in the past. Please try and get a few copies of this article and take the time to let Mark and the Standard Press know how much we appreciate them.
  • The final bullet I will have today is this: The August 6th meeting will be very important to the future of this project...I have been told by some of my friends that have not been at a meeting yet that they will be there...the amount of talent and passion at that meeting accompanied by what we already have in progress will be sure to catapault this far beyond your wildest expectations.

Know this...I am proud of you, you are doing great things, and together we will change the world!

Subject: IV-HOPEWELL LAND PURCHASE

Hello Phill

The wire came through and we were slow in having the purchase processed because schools are closing for the August holiday and I had to personally sign the progres report forms for the hundreds of kids going home.

The wire was in the amount of USD19970 and while I am in Nairobi today,Nelly is completing the land purchase at our attorney offices and should be done and holding the land title deed in her hands in about one hour.We can now breathe a huge sigh of relief, the major phase of this project is dispensed with. The architect has also been paid 50% fees to work on the detailed plans which should be ready by 15th August. When I get back to Nakuru(tomorrow,Friday),I will email you a detailed statement of account for this wire. The immediate activity that starts tomorrow is fencing off the land with barbed wire and then starting to plant an assortment of trees as we await the building phase to start.

Eutycus Mbuthia is the new addition to the IV-project team at Hopewell. He is a Hopewell graduate, teaches Math and Physics and is one sociable, intelligent and active young man.He replaces James who is now driving a 'matatu' along one of the busiest Kenyan routes while taking a part time diploma in Tour Guide Administration in anticipation of gettign employd at the IV-Hopewell as tour guide/driver.Eutycus will be getting in touch with you shortly, introducing himself as well as reporting on what the project team did the whole of yesterday in Nakuru and Elementaita. He is the one who will take pictures of the land and send over, oversee the fencing and in cordination with Alice,do a selection of trre seedlings and decorative flowers to start landscaping the site.

Nelly is currently getting you a comparison of salaries for staff in such a guest resort(from various similar guest houses) and detailed equipment(kitchen stuff, room furnishng) etc that will fully equip the village once building is up.

Congratulations for that encouraging continuation of the fundraising.....an individual donor at $1000 is a great impetus to this worthy and noble cause. We hope and pray that friends and well wishers continue opening up their wallets and signing cheques.

Enough update for one day dear friend.Expect final summaries of activities tomorrow.Be blessed and pass our profuse thanks to the entire WTW team.

Vitalice

Phill

I hope you are all doing fine. It is still dusty around here and the rains don't seem to be pouring very soon. School is good and there are three more weeks before we fold up for the August break……some 'summer' break for us.

We received the news of the approval of land purchase with lots of excitement. We are gearing to spring into action. Land purchase is the most critical and urgent activity of this project and once secured, the rest of the project activities can follow at a slower pace…so to say.

James, Alice and I plan to have the global village registered in its own name as a business. Before turning it into a limited liability company (which would take quite some time in Kenya), we will register the name with Kenya's registrar of companies. With a name certificate, the global village can then operate its own bank account and any funds which will still be in Hopewell's account and belong to the village can then be transferred. To register a business name, we would need the particulars of those designated by WTW board to be in the board of the global village…..possible for you to send us scanned passports of the 3 WTW appointees(portion indicating names, date of birth, etc),passport-size photos of the 3,scanned signatures of the 3 and two emails, one addressed to the Registrar of Companies applying to register a company in Kenya to run a guest house/tourist resort and the other addressed to the Manager, Co-operative Bank of Kenya, Nakuru Branch, asking to open an account in the name of the village and for the time being, allowing your Kenyan partner to handle the transactions.

In the meantime, as the above issues are worked out, Hopewell will set up a sub account in the name of the village to receive the lands' funds. We operate school accounts in the same bank. This will be done this coming Monday and we will send you the bank details. As usual, all documentation will be properly maintained and various financial records aptly maintained.

Have you settled on the final name for this global village? We thought that if probably there was one major donor, the village would be named in his/her honor. Or create another name which is agreeable to all stakeholders. We at Hopewell are comfortable with any choice of name you come up with.

Have a blessed Sunday. We wish you all the best in this difficult task of fund raising.

Vitalice

Fw: GLOBAL VILLAGE UPDATE

Hi Phill

We hope God has kept you well and the entire WTW team. We are all okay. The silence doesn't mean that IV-Project work stalled. On the contrary, we have covered some ground, just as Alice had earlier indicated in the last mail. The architect is working on detailed plans now and should be done in a week or so. Hopewell treasury could only afford to pay him Kshs.10, 000/= to start the work, aint near 50% he sought.

The land is secured and we have entered into 'intention to buy' agreement with the owners and they therefore cannot sell it to anyone till end of July. By then, if we still cat raise the whole money for land, we can pay 50% and the rest later as building starts.

Salaries for tour guides/drivers are paid in two ways: you either pay Kshs.1000/= every time the driver goes out with a tour team or you enter a monthly salary package which is approx.Kshs.15,000/=. Guards for such a guest house earn Kshs.6000/= a month. Waiters and waitresses earn Kshs.10, 000/= a month. We are yet to find out how much a guest house manager would take home monthly.

We already sent you detailed costs of a borehole/well. Water treatment will only come in after borehole is drilled and water analysis done. If fluoride level is within allowable limits, then no treatment. If on the higher side, then a defluoridator is a must. Setting the treatment up would cost approx.Kshs.900,000/=.

We wouldn't consider Martin within the IV-Project team. He is attending his university in Western Kenya, hundreds of miles away and would definitely not be effective. We don't know how many representatives from down here you would wish to see in the board managing the village?

We will respond to the other outstanding questions soonest. Be blessed.

Vitalice
